Now, putting on a "Man's Hat", I think some men would prefer not to work for a lady boss or thinks differently of women leaders. Someone (a man) once told me "if you put a woman at the top, the company will go down." What a strong and judgemental statement I thought... But in probing, this man had previously worked in an organization dominated by power women who are extremely smart, make lots of money and brutally agressive. So I supposed his view has been heavliy skewed by his past experience. :( [Need a neutralization strategy!]
Well, let's take at a more balanced view and look at power men who clearly embrace and sponsor women leaders :-
See Microsoft CEO, Satya's recent Worldwide Partner Conference 2015 Keynote: in his 50 minutes presentation, Satya invited 2 of his women leaders (Julia White and Lorraine Bardeen) on stage to present, interestingly, NO men...
Locally in Singapore, DBS Group Holdings is a strong advocate for gender diversity. Click here for Data source. Women make up nearly 60 per cent of its 18,000-strong workforce. At the managing director level, the figure is 30 per cent. Five in 18 senior executives who report directly to chief executive Piyush Gupta are women.
3 Cheers to Women Power and the Advocates !
Women March “Forth” Thought Leadership Dinner
12 March 2014
Not sure how I was selected, but a blessing to be invited by LinkedIN to their first inaugural Women Leaders dinner. LinkedIN brought together female industry leaders to connect and ignite collaborative and thought-provoking conversation, with a fine dining treat at Garibaldi. Cool, right?.. Well, this is their world's first attempt, hopefully more will come !
What amused me was the seating arrangement... As I found the table place card 'Gina Wong, Amazon', seated next to me was Microsoft on my left, Google on my right and all the rest from Adobe, Dell, Yahoo, VMware... and the LinkedIN Management. It reminded me of the infamous picture of power MEN leaders having dinner ! Truly a privilege to interact and exchange experiences with like-minded women leaders within the same industry, over fine food and wine.
